Gather Around the Dinner Table!!!!

Posted on: August 21, 2008

Hey Everyone,

Don’t we all enjoy lunch time at school, eating with our friends, and indulging in endless conversations? It’s a time to catch up on the latest news and discuss what ever is going on in each others lives. Sitting around the table at home with family is also a time to share stories, the day’s events, and just engage in good healthy conversation. Your parents can be cool too! They were once your age and loved to hang out with their friends and enjoy activities, but family time is important too… and what better time to bond with your family than at the dinner table? Daily routine habits can help shape our lives. A recent article in the Washington Post reported that eating meals together as a family can reduce the risk of teen girls turning to drugs and alcohol.

Family time is important! Friends may change throughout your life, but your family is always there. You may not think so, but your parents can offer some pretty good advice if you give them a chance. The Washington Post isn’t the only one reporting about the importance of family bonding time at the dinner table. Popular cable networks like Nick @ Nite and TV Land run public service announcements and commercials encouraging families to share meals together. Bonding with your parents and other siblings isn’t such a bad idea. There are ways to have fun with your family while sharing meals. Try getting together to play a game or discussing a topic that interest all of you, during or after dinner. You can come up with unique and interesting games that will interest you as well as your parents.

Family meals are the perfect time to engage in important conversations with one another and discuss each persons day. What sorts of things can you share with your family? Share your feelings or even issues you might be having at school or elsewhere. How do you feel about eating together as a family and discussing important events such as drugs or alcohol? Do you feel comfortable discussing it with your parents? Would you rather not discuss it? What kinds of things would you be open to discussing at the dinner table amongst your family? Feel free to voice your opinions!

Get on the path to discussing a healthy lifestyle during a healthy meal!

Enjoy your dinner conversations,
