Since 2007, The Century Council and the National Soccer Hall of Fame have been partners working to motivate young people to lead healthy and active lives. The Girl Talk program partnered with the National Soccer Hall of Fame for their 2007 induction ceremonies which included the induction of female players Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy. This was a historic event as it was the Soccer Hall of Fame’s first time inducting an all female class and we were thrilled to be a part of it!
Last night yet another woman was inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame – two-time World Champion Joy Fawcett. The Century Council congratulates Joy on her accomplishment!
I’ve updated the YouTube playlist on my profile page to include a number of videos from the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Experience the Induction Ceremony first hand through my YouTube videos!!! The videos include: a message to Mia and Julie from the US Women’s National Soccer Team before their departure to China for the World Cup. the Hall of Fame Exhibition Match, AND both Mia and Julie’s complete induction speech. Here’s a preview of all the exciting video’s Girl Talk has to share!
I’ve FINALLY gotten around to updating the slideshow on my profile page with Hall of Fame pictures!! It took me forever to go through all of the pictures from the event and pick out the best ones to share with you! Between the pictures I took and the ones from the professional photographer, there were close to 2,000 pictures to look through. As i’ve been telling you and now you can see for yourself, the whole weekend was amazing! Girl Talk did a fabulous job in presenting this year’s Induction Ceremony. Take a look at my slideshow and let me know what you think.
That’s all for now,
Check out the video of me at the Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy press conference. It was incredible to hear Julie Foudy talk about Girl Talk and about the importance of making healthy and responsible decisions. Julie is a true advocate for young females. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to visit Julie’s Sports Leadership Academy’s website. Julie continues her commitment to helping young girls develop into strong woman by teaching her students the ingredients it takes to be a leader on AND off the field.
After much anticipation and lots of hard work, the National Soccer Hall of Fame Induction Weekend has finally arrived. I’m in Oneonta right now where I’ve come a few days early to help Girl Talk get ready.
First, be sure to check out Mia and Julie on the CBS early show tomorrow morning between 8am-9pm. As they kick the ball around with Dave the weather man, they’ll be talking about the induction and Girl Talk. Be sure to watch it live and record it so you don’t miss a beat. I’m sure some of you saw this, but Julie was also on CNN World Sports tonight and Mia will be on Mia will be on ESPN First Take sometime between 11-1145 am tomorrow. As always, I’ll be sure to give my opinion on how everything goes and I’d love to hear from you.
Now to the details of the weekend, I’ll be in Oneonta tomorrow and Saturday getting ready for the big day. I’ll be unpacking all of the Girl Talk boxes we packed this week and get everything organized before Mia and Julie arrive. I’ll be sure to give a re-cap each night so you can see how much work goes into setting up such a big event. I’ll also keep my camera with me at all times throughout the weekend, especially on Sunday, for any photo opportunities!!
That’s all for now,
Girl Talk has some exciting news about the Reel Girls, Real Life contest and the National Soccer Hall of Fame 2007 Induction ceremony. I want to make sure my Myspace friends are some of the first to know. I’ll be updating you on all the details in the coming days so keep checking back for the latest info.
That’s all for now,
In just over 2 months, Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy will be inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame. This was the first year of eligibility for both of them, and the first time inhistory that women only are being inducted! That’s pretty unbelievable. The program I work for, Girl Talk, actually sponsored the announcement of their induction. It was really cool to see two people use such an important and personal moment in their lives to promote a cause.
The Hall of Fame made no mistake in selecting Julie and Mia; both were founding players for the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). Foudy served as captain for the United States’ National Women’s Soccer Team from 2000-2004, made 271 international appearances, contributing 45 goals and 59 assists. Hamm made 275 international appearances and scored a world record 158 goals, 50 more than the previous record holder- not to mention 144 assists!
On top of all their athletic accomplishments, both women just became new moms! Julie had her baby girl Isabel on January 1st, 2007 and Mia gave birth to twins Ava and Grace on March 27th 2007 (all girls!).
When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense that Julie and Mia would want to work to fight drunk driving and underage drinking. After all, alcohol does even more physical damage to girls than it does to guys. And female athletes? There’s no way they can afford that kind of risk.
I’m just glad I got the chance to work on the issue with them. Two time world cup champs? That is so cool!
